SS Robin
The "SS Robin" was built in 1890 at the Royal Victoria shipyard in London. Ten years later, it was sold to a Spanish company, which would call it “María”. This ship was very popular in the waters of the Cantabrian Sea, to the point that in 1960 the feature film “María, matrícula de Bilbao” was released, starring a very young Arturo Fernández.
In 1974 the ship was returned to England to become abandoned, at which time experts warned of its historical value and a preservation process began that continues to this day. The SS Robin is the oldest coastal steam ship in the world. It retains its original engine and is listed as one of the 10 most important historic ships in the British fleet.
The honorary patron of the project is Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Queen Elizabeth II of England, who passed away in 2021. On the eve of his retirement from public life, Prince Philip visited the SS Robin and, breaking the protocol of his security team, boarded the ship to say goodbye to one of his most endearing projects.
Throughout the 12 years that our collaboration in this project lasted, we developed all phases of conceptualization, design, restoration, engineering and commercial support to guarantee the preservation of this relic throughout this century.
